{"id":5682,"date":"2020-06-15T13:06:16","date_gmt":"2020-06-15T11:06:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.slavkocuruvijafondacija.rs\/?p=5682"},"modified":"2020-06-15T13:06:16","modified_gmt":"2020-06-15T11:06:16","slug":"trial-for-arson-attack-on-journalists-home-turned-into-mocking-of-victims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scf.clickr.rs\/en\/trial-for-arson-attack-on-journalists-home-turned-into-mocking-of-victims\/","title":{"rendered":"Trial for arson attack on journalist&#8217;s home turned into mocking of victims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>June 15, 2020<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>At the trial for the December 2018 arson attack on the house of journalist Milan Jovanovi\u0107, the lawyers of the main defendant, Dragoljub Simonovic, a former president of the Belgrade suburban municipality of Grocka and a senior official of the ruling SNS party, questioned the journalist&#8217;s wife Jela Deljanin in detail about the night the house burned down, but also about every item of furniture that she reported as being damaged in the fire.<\/h2>\n<p>The four-hour hearing was marked by the tormenting feeling that the victims were on trial, due to the way they were interrogated by Simonovi\u0107&#8217;s lawyers, which the prosecutor dubbed \u201cranting\u201d and an \u201cinquisition\u201d, while the judge said it was \u201can insult to their intelligence\u201d, reports Cenzolovka.<\/p>\n<p>Journalist Jovanovi\u0107 survived the arson attack on his house thanks precisely to the composure of his wife, who led him out of the house in a semi-conscious state. The fire left them without a house and their savings, and Milan&#8217;s wife told the court that she hasn&#8217;t been able to sleep since that fateful\u00a0night, which has resulted in her taking a
