{"id":7863,"date":"2022-09-30T12:54:17","date_gmt":"2022-09-30T10:54:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.slavkocuruvijafondacija.rs\/?p=7863"},"modified":"2022-09-30T12:54:17","modified_gmt":"2022-09-30T10:54:17","slug":"marathon-trial-process-against-those-accused-of-murdering-slavko-curuvija-to-enter-final-stages-in-december","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scf.clickr.rs\/en\/marathon-trial-process-against-those-accused-of-murdering-slavko-curuvija-to-enter-final-stages-in-december\/","title":{"rendered":"Marathon trial process against those accused of murdering Slavko \u0106uruvija to enter final stages in December"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>September 30, 2022<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>The Court of Appeal in Belgrade will hold a public session from 5<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0to 9<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0December for the appeals against the first-instance verdict in the case of the murder of Slavko \u0106uruvija, which last December sentenced four former members of the State Security Service to a total of 100 years in prison.<\/h2>\n<p>Slavko \u0106uruvija, a journalist and publisher of newspapers Dnevni telegraf [Daily Telegraph] and Evropljanin [The European], was gunned down and murdered on 11<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0April 1999. The trial against former senior officials and operatives of the State Security Service, Radomir Markovi\u0107, Milan Radonji\u0107, Miroslav Kurak, and Ratko Romi\u0107, first began in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The Court of Appeal has already ordered a retrial in a lower court on one occasion, following appeals against the 2019 nonbinding verdict that also sentenced the defendants to a total of 100 years in prison, but on this occasion the court will only have the option of bringing a final, binding verdict.<\/p>\n<p>It is possible that the Court of Appeal\u2019s five-member panel of judges will make a decision to open a trial before a final verdict is passed and after the public session is held. Regardless, we are just a few months away from bringing an end to this legal marathon and very important court process for journalists in
