{"id":7993,"date":"2022-11-16T14:49:49","date_gmt":"2022-11-16T13:49:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.slavkocuruvijafondacija.rs\/?p=7993"},"modified":"2022-11-16T14:49:49","modified_gmt":"2022-11-16T13:49:49","slug":"courts-respond-differently-to-threats-against-journalists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scf.clickr.rs\/en\/courts-respond-differently-to-threats-against-journalists\/","title":{"rendered":"Courts respond differently to threats against journalists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>November 16, 2022<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>In response to threats issued against Verica Marin\u010di\u0107, journalist and editor of In\u0111ija-based portal IN Media, a man named S.J. from Beo\u010din (near Novi Sad) has received a suspended prison sentence.<\/h2>\n<p>He previously reached a plea deal with the prosecutor\u2019s office in which he admitted committing the criminal offense of endangering security, and the sentence will remain suspended unless the defendant commits a new criminal offense within the next three years.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first case to actually punish the attacker of Verica Marin\u010di\u0107, noted the Slavko \u0106uruvija Foundation, adding that \u201cinstitutions should continue protecting journalists in such a way in the future\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the Higher Court in Zaje\u010dar overturned the first-instance verdict against the person who threatened Danas correspondent Miljko Stojanovi\u0107 via Facebook. The court accepted that there were grounds to support the appeal and ordered a retrial.<\/p>\n<p>Stojanovi\u0107 announced that he was disturbed by the move and that, following the overturning of the verdict, he felt the same as \u201cwhen he received the first threats\u201d (in response to an article about a Ukrainian who fled the war and ended up in Zaje\u010dar), and reminded that he had been threatened by a neighbour. The Slavko \u0106uruvija Foundation assessed the overturning of the verdict as an \u201cunnecessary and dangerous delay\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>November 16, 2022 In
