{"id":9593,"date":"2024-05-16T11:53:01","date_gmt":"2024-05-16T09:53:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.slavkocuruvijafondacija.rs\/?p=9593"},"modified":"2024-05-16T11:53:01","modified_gmt":"2024-05-16T09:53:01","slug":"appellate-court-convicts-ruling-party-official-dragoljub-simonovic-over-arson-attack-on-journalists-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scf.clickr.rs\/en\/appellate-court-convicts-ruling-party-official-dragoljub-simonovic-over-arson-attack-on-journalists-house\/","title":{"rendered":"Appellate court convicts ruling party official Dragoljub Simonovi\u0107 over arson attack on journalist\u2019s house"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>May 15, 2024<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>The Court of Appeal has passed down a verdict with which it approved the appeals of lawyers by reducing the prison sentence of Dragoljub Simonovi\u0107, a former president of the Municipality of Grocka and a senior official of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party, from five years to four, alongside a fine of 100,000 dinars.<\/h2>\n<p>The first-instance court previously sentenced Simonovi\u0107 to five years behind bars.<\/p>\n<p>This has concluded the five-year court case over the firebombing of the house of a journalist who wrote about corruption within the municipality, given that the judgment of the Court of Appeal is final and binding.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside Simonovi\u0107, prison sentences and fines were also confirmed for the three organisers of the crime that Simonovi\u0107 ordered.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first time a state official has been punished for a crime against a journalist in Serbia. February saw the acquittals of four former officials of the state security service who were accused of the murder of journalist Slavko
